It may surprise some of you to know that I am in my 7th year here at MBC. Along with this comes the opportunity of a sabbatical, and I am delighted to say the leadership team has approved my proposal.
The purpose of this sabbatical has many different factors but with an overall aim of being a time to broaden my experience of youth work, ministry and leadership.
Although some of the details are yet to be confirmed, the plan at present is to take two weeks in Jan/Feb for academic study, then to take ten weeks from half term in June to the middle of August. This will hopefully include a placement with the Chaplaincy at Wetherby Young Offenders , two weeks Army Cadet Camp as one of the Humberside & South Yorkshire AC Chaplains, visiting other UK based youth projects including XLP and taking part in Soul In The City, Durban (a collaboration between TearFund & Soul Survivor mission project).
Throughout all of this I hope to have time for plenty of reading and will be meeting regularly with Graham to draw together my theological reflections.
Researching and preparatory visits for parts of my sabbatical have already proved a challenging and inspiring experience and I hope that this is just a taste of what the sabbatical will bring, as I look to challenge and stretch who I am and what I can do here in my work at MBC and beyond.
