The only regret I had about going to Chapel A’s “Carols in the Park” event on Sunday 11th December was that I forgot to take my good camera with me. I hadn’t realised before how frustrating it is to take photos on a mobile phone when you really want them to turn out well. So apologies for the poor quality of the photos. If anyone took any better ones, then do send them to us via email and we’d be happy to include them
.
Surprisingly, in my twelfth year at Moortown, I had not been to this event before; there has always been something else which got in the way. For some reason I had visions of a very traditional event, but this was nothing of the kind. Dave Herringshaw, the Musical Director, had arranged many of the carols in a more modern Jazz style, but still kept some of them strictly original as you know and love them. A fantastic choir and great band ensured that the music and singing was of high quality.
Many old friends were taking part and an enthusiastic crowd of around 600 people turned out on a fairly cold and miserable night to watch. Friendly stewards circulated with heaped trays of minced pies, and many of the children had come dressed as angels, shepherds and wise men to take part in the event. They even had fireworks afterwards.
Michael Flowers gave a short address which was as direct and simple a Christian message as you can get. “Let Jesus into your life this year and you will experience a truly happy Christmas”.
A wonderful way to start the Christmas celebrations!
