Glenda moved to Leeds to take the role of Youth Pastor at MBC in August 2003. Since then she has worked as part of the leadership team, overseeing the Youth Work & Ministry at Moortown Baptist Church with a great team of volunteers (see youth pages for details).

As a strong believer in the role that church has to play in being God’s representatives on earth, her two main passions of working with young people are discipleship and outreach. On one level this involves working with young people who are connected with the church and the privilege that it is to journey with them, as they strive to meet Jesus and find a faith that is independent of their parents and families. Through regular activities, groups, services and residentials we aim for the young people to discover their God-given gifts as they grow and learn about who they are as a child of God. As their confidence grows it is great to see the young people involved in mission, sharing their faith openly with friends and being an example to the rest of the church family.

On another level it is important that we recognize that as church we are part of community, both local and worldwide. It is vital that with young people we reach out and go into the community, to provide a place that is safe and can support them practically, emotionally and spiritually. For many of these young people, this is the first contact that they have had with church. We strive to be inclusive to all young people, as we deal with many of the difficult issues that face teenagers today.

In the city of Leeds, it is great to be able to meet and work with a wide network of leaders from youth organizations and churches who share similar desires for young people across Leeds.

Glenda is originally from rural Devon and following a degree in Music with English Literature in Liverpool, she took the Oasis Youth work & Ministry course, working in West Wickham & Shirley Baptist Church. The JNC qualification with this continues to open doors in partnership work with the local authorities.

Glenda was ordained as a Baptist Youth Specialist Minister in October 2005 and completed her time as a Newly Accredited Minister (NAM) with Ministerial recognition in May 2009. Glenda used her NAM period to complete a Post-Graduate Diploma in Contextual Theology with the Partnership for Theological Education, University of Manchester.

In her spare time Glenda enjoys a wide range of music, theatre, running, films, books, spending time with friends & family and holidays to exciting places!
