MBC in schools

When it comes to our involvement in and with our local community, geographically, Moortown Baptist Church couldn’t be better placed. Within a two or three mile radius we have literally thousands of homes, dozens of shops and most importantly nigh on a dozen schools.

schools (1600x971)In addition to their duties at MBC both our Children’s Worker Cas Stoodley and our Youth Worker Gary Tate spend a great deal of their time working alongside pupils and staff in a number of local schools: indeed Cas regularly leads assemblies at Meanwood and Allerton church schools whilst Gary’s working week is split between heading up our own Youth Programme and working for Leeds Faith in Schools at Allerton High School.

Besides the work being carried out by members of our paid staff we also have a number of volunteers who in one way or another take MBC into our local school. For instance besides the career teachers who worship with us several members of our congregation sit as school governors whilst others pay regular visits to a number of Primary schools to help pupils with their reading.

We often hear that the reason children are so important to the church is because they are that church’s future – in other words they are tomorrow’s church. Here at Moortown Baptist Church that’s not quite how we see it. To us children are not tomorrow’s church, they are just as much today’s church as their parents and their grandparents.

At Moortown Baptist Church the notion of the church and our local schools working together is a perfect example of neighbourliness, of community cohesion; to us it’s as natural as any other organisations coming together for the common good.
