Romance Academy

After the success of the pilot Romance academy held at MBC last Autumn there have been 3 Academy’s running in the Spring term across Leeds.

Working with Hannah Dey from Chapel Allerton Youth Project and Craig Mullen from Leeds Faith in Schools, in North Leeds we are running Romance Academy with six young people aged 13-15 over 13 weeks, held at Carr Manor High School. Working with and mentoring these young people we look at sex and relationships as they build their self-esteem enhanced by sexual delay, based on the tag-line ‘No sex please we’re teenagers.’

Working at the school and with Education Leeds Extended Services has been exciting and brought with it new challenges, but for the 4 young people who graduated the course (March 2010) this has been a great life learning experience.

Romance Academy Leeds is growing and we are hoping to have 4/5 Academy’s launching in September. Hannah and I are committed to running another one in September 2010 and Jan 2011, one here at MBC and the other at Carr Manor High. Details of this to follow. At present we are looking for a male leader to help lead this as Craig’s skills are needed elsewhere in September.
