New To Church?

A Big Welcome!

Whether you’re new to Leeds and looking for a church – or you’re completely new to church or the Christian faith – then you’ll find a Big Welcome at Moortown Baptist Church.

On this page you’ll find answers to some of the most frequent questions people ask us. However if your question isn’t answered below or you just want to know more then please contact us either by phone (0113) 2693750 or by using our Contact Form. We will be delighted to hear from you!

Who are we?

Moortown Baptist Church (MBC) consists of a diverse mix of people of all ages and backgrounds – from young people, singles and families through to senior citizens.

We’re friendly, modern and relevant and a great place to be for anyone looking for a spiritual ‘home’ where they’ll be made to feel welcome. As someone said recently, MBC is a fantastic church where you’ll never feel excluded or lonely – in fact it’s like one great big family!

When are our services held?

We hold services on Sunday mornings and a range of different services on Sunday evenings.

If you’re new to the church, the best way to start is with our Sunday morning service which starts at 10.30am. Turn up around 10.20am which will give you time to introduce yourself to the Welcome Team on the door. There’s free parking in our own car park or at the Leafield Clinic over the road. For directions on how to reach us please see the Find Us page.

What to wear

Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people just as they are. You don’t need to dress up but you can if you wish!

What to expect

Going anywhere for the first time can be a bit daunting. So here’s a quick summary of the kind of things you can expect at Moortown Baptist Church.

First of all, you’ll receive a warm, friendly welcome. Our Welcome Team can introduce you to people you can sit with and who can tell you more about the church – or you’re welcome to sit on your own. And if you don’t understand anything or want to know more, please just ask.

Our Sunday morning service usually starts with modern worship songs at 10.30am led by our musicians (with guitars, keyboards and drums). At around 11am the children and young people leave for their groups. We also run a crèche for the little ones.

After that, there’s a talk from the Bible that’s relevant and meaningful to our modern lives. We finish around midday, usually with a traditional hymn followed by tea and coffee in our sports hall.

Whether you’re just looking into Christianity for the first time or have been a Christian for many years, it’s our aim that you will be encouraged and inspired. By being part of Moortown Baptist Church, we hope you will draw closer to God – and make new, lasting friendships, too.

What we believe

We are a Christian church and believe that everyone can have relationship with God. We believe this relationship with God is possible because of Jesus (God’s only Son) who invites us to follow Him.

If you are interested in exploring the Christian faith then please come along on a Sunday or contact the office to ask for a free booklet.

Is it just Sundays?

Absolutely not! God is with us all week long, so you’ll find life at Moortown Baptist Church never stops – there’s always something going on.

We hold a number of house groups throughout the week, for all ages. These are a superb opportunity to get together with smaller groups of around 10 people to pray, read the Bible and chat about everyday living over a cuppa.

Another way to feel part of our church, or just get answers to your questions about Christianity, is to join one of our Alpha Courses. Alpha is one of the most exciting movements in Christianity today – there are now over 33,500 courses worldwide in 163 countries, supported by all the major denominations.

Through Alpha, literally millions have come to understand the basics of the Christian faith through a series of lively, informal talks and discussions. Alpha at Moortown Baptist Church is a great way to find out more about God and the claims of Christianity in a relaxed, informal setting. No question is too ‘silly’ and you’ll find other people also exploring God for the first time. Find out more on our Alpha page – or on the Alpha Website.

Young people

We have a thriving youth group led by our Youth Pastor, Glenda. Our young people (11-18) meet for breakfast from 10am – a great chance to meet people, catch up with friends and then go into church at 10.30am and sit and worship together.

Every month our young people hold their own Sunday Evening Service: Divine – a very lively and vibrant experience, as you’d expect! The Young People also have their own house groups – Connections and Linx - which both meet on a Sunday evening.

For disabled people

We aim to be an all-inclusive church. Our premises are wheelchair accessible and we have reserved parking spaces for blue badge holders, which are near the entrance and provide space for transfer. There is a fully wheelchair accessible toilet and level access into a standard kitchen. If you have specific needs and would like to talk to us, please contact our office and someone will get back to you.
