From photobombing Superheroes to reflecting on Creation – this is PULSE

As we reported in an earlier post our Childerns’ Worker Cas Stoodley and her Sunday morning team have just launched a new programme which will integrate the teaching for three of our groups (that’s Faithbuilders, Excavate and Inters) as never before.

Each month, PULSE, will concentrate on a particular subject – in November that’s Gratitude.

If week one is anything to go by PULSE looks set to challenge young, not so young and the old alike as at a furious pace the groups work both independently and together to embrace the specified theme.

Each month on weeks one and four all the children will come together at 10.20am. After registration and the all important news slot (which in my group, Faithbuilders, usually revolves around a wobbly tooth and a birthday partty) they play a game which subtly introduces that morning’s topic. Then it’s out of the Sports Hall and into The Lounge for worship and teaching. Last Sunday Claire Taylor’s band – that Claire together with her children Simon and Mary led us through two songs which again highlighted our gratitude to God.

Throughout Cas’ teaching slot (a decidedly grown up examination of Psalm 100) the group kept breaking off to have their photographs taken acting out various elements of God’s Creation.

Then it was time to go their separate ways and for each of the three groups to begin work on some amazingly crafty challenges.

One of the main reasons for changing to this new programme is that via a clever mix of take home material and Social Media it encourages families to engage with their children throughout the whole week about what they’ve being doing with us on a Sunday.

It also suggests ways in which on week four the whole group can come back into church and again through a whole raft of different mediums show the rest of the MBC family what they have been learning, sharing, singing and praying about.

One thing Cas is still working on however, and here she’s asking for your help, is a logo for PULSE. If you think you can help her (and anything goes) drop her an email together with your design to cas.stoodley.mbc@btconnect.com
