Child Sponsorship Scheme

The interest of this church in Bangladesh began in 1960 when June and Michael Flowers who were members of the church joined the staff of the Chandraghona Christian Hospital in the Tribal Hill Tracts in the south east of the country.

They found children living in the Leprosy Home with their parents, (above) in obvious danger of contracting the disease.

June wrote home and money was raised by this church to fund the building of a hostel near the Leprosy Home where the children could grow up safely. Further gifts paid for their clothes, food and education.

Thus the Child Sponsorship Scheme was born, and this wonderful project continues to this day. Over the years hundreds of children have been helped in this way, and as a result some have made significant contributions to their society as, for example, a nurse, pharmacist, accountant, physiotherapist, teacher and preacher. At present over 40 children from destitute families are supported, most of them by members of this congregation.
