MBC helps more than 150 year 6’s dance their way towards high school

15 July 2014

DSC_0204 (1600x893)One of the most respected of MBC’s children’s and youth programmes is a project that over the years has helped thousands of youngsters prepare for their move from primary to secondary school. This year, however, Move Up took on a whole new dimension!

DSC_0011 (1600x1071)That’s because Springs Dance Company, who many of you will remember performed Journey of the Magi here at Moortown last December, were again on hand but this time not only as performers but also as workshop leaders.

Running alongside the workshops, which through dance focussed on how the unknown can burden you was a craft session in which the children designed and made their own keep-sake photo frames and a fifteen minute Q and A slot in which Becky and Sarah Smart and Abbie Jennions recounted their own experiences of moving up.

DSC_0038 (1600x1071)Fronted by Gary Tate and Cas Stoodley the two all too short sessions drew some incredibly encouraging feedback from accompanying teaching staff. So much so that whilst they were with us the dancers even managed to fit in two extra sessions – one at Allerton C of E Primary School the other at Meanwood C of E Primary.

Once again Cas and Gary were helped by an team of amazing volunteers, to whom they are very, very grateful.

DSC_0150 (1600x1071)Please pray for these children as following the long summer holiday they begin a new life in what to them will seem a very strange environment.

Our pictures were taken at both the Monday and Tuesday sessions and are of pupils from:  Allerton C of E, Meanwood C of E, St Matthews C of E and Redhill Juniors. Also present were year 6 classes from St Peters C of E School and Moortown Primary.
