Rewind to Christmas… a huge challenge, a great joy and wonderful outreach

7 December 2016

p1020235-600x450This year our Rewind to Christmas project saw more than 400 Year 4 school children joining us at MBC for a couple of hours of fun, craft and drama. With a team consisting of well over 20 volunteers, many of whom were first timers, each of the 4 sessions was as different as it was engaging.

Somehow, this year, we even found time to close each session with an extra if somewhat brief Q and A. This was fascinating as our young guests asked a whole host of direct questions : “Who was God’s mum”? asked a little girl from Harewood and “where exactly does Santa fit into your Christmas story?” enquired a boy from Moortown.

Rewind to Christmas, alongside its counterpart Rewind to Easter is to me one of our most valuable outreach arms: between them, in total close on a thousand children and around 70 teachers hear first hand just what these two great Christian festivals mean to us.

Cas Stoodley (MBC’s brilliant Childrens’ Worker) has asked me to pass on her grateful thanks to everyone who helped, particular so to the ladies who stitched together a whole wardrobe full of shepherds tabards – they really were a huge hit as in groups the children got to meet some smelly “real life” shepherds and some extremely noble and fragrant kings.
