Some heartfelt thanks from Romania

30 May 2013

For many years the Romania Support Group here at Moortown Baptist Church has provided vital financial support to children and young people in education. Initially this was channeled into a Christian High School. However, in recent years as the Romanian education system has evolved, the administration of these funds has been taken on by a specially elected committee at Manasttur nr 1 Church in Cluj and used to give young men and women the opportunity of attending a local university.

Speaking on behalf of MRS G (the Moortown Romania Support Group) Norman Hiley says: “Unlike in this country, in Romania a student is only able to study at a university in their home city. Whilst this saves on accommodation costs it still means that for most students there is very little left over. The money we send (£400 to £500 each year) helps a number of undergraduates by not only providing them with books, but also helping with their day to day living expenses”.  In sharing the following thank-you letters Norman adds his thanks to all who contribute to this ministry.

“My name is Diana Gandila and I study law at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.  I am so thankful for the money that I received through the annual scholarship that church Manasttur nr 1 receives. Due to the money received I was able to cover some of the studying costs as, studying in a city that is a university center could be expensive especially when you are far from home.  Again I am very thankful and may God reward your kindness.”

“Hello, my name is Ionel POP, I’m  student at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca and I study Agriculture in particular. I want to thank you very much for the help I received from you through the 1st Baptist Church here in Cluj and say that I’m very grateful because it came in just when I needed it most.  I wish you well and may God bless your work and your willingness to help others and give you strength to continue in our work for Him. With thanks, Ionel POP.”

“My name is Daniela GLIGOR and I am from Seleus, a county on the west side of our country.  I’m in Cluj since 2007 when I began to study Finances here in Cluj.  I also have a master degree in Entrepreneurship and Business Management.  I started working as a volunteer and Preventis Association on one of their projects.  I was a mentor for a child for 3 hours per week for a year.  OI always had an inclination for social work.  This made me want to start a second college, this time Faculty of Sociology and Social Work.  I am now in the second year.  At church I am part of a small group of study Bible and mission.   I am also one of the leaders of a group of teenagers and I also sing with a worship team. I want to thank you for your support.  These money came at the right time…a very pleasant surpriseJ. May the Lord reward you abundantly!”

“Hi :), I’m Gabriela Roman from Ploiesti and I am studying Archaeology at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj.  I like it very much but there are times when things get difficult, and for that reason there are 3 exams I didn’t pass.  I was a bit worried some months ago thinking on asking my parents for money, but then I chose to put the whole situation before God and I convinced myself to trust Him.  As the exams are now approaching, I can see His care for me and I’m so grateful He shows me that I matter to Him and it’s a strong conviction to me that He allows me to study what I’m studying because it’s His will.  I thank God He used you to make me see His power, it’s wonderful to know God and to rejoice in His presence.  Thank you. :)”

“Hello, My name is Mihai Purel and I am a student here in Cluj.  I come from Radauti, a town about 300km from Cluj.  I study computer science and I’m in second year.  I want to thank you so much for your help, for me was really unexpected and really, really helpful.  God has His ways and His people and the way He works is simply amazing.  I want to thank you again for your kindness and may God bless you! Wish you all the best, Mahai Purel.”
