Making time for people

21 November 2012

I was thinking what to put in this week’s Minister’s message when the church office doorbell rang. My first reaction was irritation at another distraction that was preventing me getting on with my goals for the day, being sermon prep and looking at some discipleship info. It was a woman, in her late 30’s, in a bad way and asking if we had any spare food. Having had a good chat and given her some stuff from the food store she went on her way. I was very aware that Jesus would not have had the same initial reaction! How easy it is for people to get squeezed out by things we need to do; but Jesus always had time for people.

A question for us all is whether our lives are so busy that we do not have time to build relationships, love and care for our brothers and sisters in the church and those in our community? If we are too busy we need to reflect on how we balance our time; if we feel we do have space for others, the question then is “Are we investing that time well?”

Perhaps you can encourage me to always have time for people and I can encourage you!
